    Illinois, USA
    November 29, 2007
Today Ty introduces the Ty Store exclusive, 2008 the bear.

  • This Beanie Baby is similar in appearance to the retail version of the bear with the same theme (New Year 2008 the bear).  One major difference is that the Ty Store version has a red bow tie.  The retail version has a black bow tie.

More About the 2008 Zodiac Rat
    Melbourne, Australia
    November 29, 2007
Belinda Jane's, a Ty Australia retailer, shares the following update about the unannounced Beanie Baby celebrating the Year of the Rat.

Date of birth:  February 7, 2008

This grey rat of the zodiac
Holding his lucky little red pack
Will bring a safe and peaceful year
To all those who keep him near!

According to Ty Australia, the red pack that the beanie is holding is called Ang Pow (Chinese-Thai). Wikipedia.com provides the following information on the pack (envelope):

  • Red envelopes are often presented on social and family occasions such as Chinese marriage wedding receptions or a holiday (e.g., a Chinese New Year).
  •
  • The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck. The amount of money in the envelope is usually an even number.  Odd numbers are related to cash given during funerals.
  •
  • During the Chinese New Year, a red envelope (pack) is typically given by married persons to the unmarried. Any unmarried individual is eligible to receive money, regardless of age.

    November 29, 2007

  • Dusty from Texas, manager of the plush toy marketplace called The Showroom, shares that he has had Onny, Pinny, and Bodkin in stock for quite some time.  You may order the trio by clicking here and searching for them.
  •
Typically I do not advertise beanie sales, but here is a sale that has enough general interest, that it may be of interest several of you.  Ann from Texas writes (slightly edited):

I have posted pictures of my beanie room on both of your sites in the past.  I have my entire 10 year Beanie Collection for sale immediately.  I have over 3000 + pieces without duplicates.  All are MWMT.

    Where are the Latest Boblins?
    Australia
    November 28, 2007
On September 28, 2007, Ty introduced the final three Boblins:  Onny, Pinny, and Bodkin.  All three are Canada, Australia, and New Zealand exclusives.  Since that time, I have seen pictures (click here), but have not received reports from collectors that they are in hand.  I wrote to Ty Australia about their whereabouts, which provided the following information:

  • Ty Australia has not yet received the three new Boblins.  However, the outlook is promising that they will arrive in the near future.
  •
  • In the meantime, Canada remains the only source to find the remaining three Boblins at this time.
  •
So for those of you wanting to complete your set of seven Boblins, look to the north....  You may be able to find them there!

From the Email Bag:  Walgreen's Jingle Beanies
    USA
    November 28, 2007
Allen from the USA (aka albeansouth) shares an observation he made on Walgreens' exclusive Jingle Beanies.  He writes:

I wanted to show the difference in the ears of my Lil' Frosts & Lil' Flakes Jingle Beanies. Lil' Flakes ears are very square instead of rounded & they are placed too low on the sides of his head. I put him next to Lil' Frosts to show how they are different.  (click here)  I like the way Lil' Frosts ears are much better.  I know this is nothing all that unusual, and I would not have gotten this odd Lil' Flakes if I had noticed it. Has anyone else noticed these odd ears on their Jingles?

Bean Watcher comment:  Thank you for your email and pictures.  I suspect that you are seeing a manufacturing variation, not a planned variation.  You're the first to report it, so it would be interesting to hear what others have found.

His body color is tye dyed.  Shades of red with an occasional touch of a lighter towards white shade.  He is now one of my favorite Ty products.  He has a place of honor along with the Welsh Dragon.

    The 2007 Konami Cup Promotions
    Tokyo, Japan
    November 26, 2007
Sakurako from Japan, webmaster of Bottega Beanies, shares her report and pictures of the 2007 Konami Cup beanie promotions.

  • According to Wikipedia.com, an online encyclopedia, the Konami Cup Asia Series is an international baseball tournament in East Asia, first held between November 10 and November 13, 2005, in Tokyo.  Champions from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and China played in the series.
  •
  • This tournament is the most important professional baseball game in Eastern Asia.  This year's tournament was held from November 8 - 11, 2007 in Tokyo, Japan.  Ty Japan collaborated with the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) to create two officially sanctioned NPB promotional beanies (click here).
  •
  • One promotion features Merrybelle the bear.  The second promotion features 2007 Zodiac Pig the pig. Only 100 of each style were created.  Each promotion comes with a serially-numbered uniform and all have sold out.

From the Email Bag:  Ty Girlz in People Magazine
    Massachusetts, USA
    November 26, 2007
Brendan from Massachusetts shares the following news about the Ty Girlz line.  He writes:

On page 81 of the December third issue of People magazine there is an ad for Ty Girlz ! It shows Cute Candy, Bubbly Britney, and a new Ty Girlz saying "Psssst we've got a secret" and then "We're shopping in Paris...and you can too !"

You can also see this ad if you go to the Ty main page and click for the game demo for the Ty Girlz.

I'm guessing that the unannounced Ty Girl will come out with the December/January introductions (along with three others, since Ty apparently introduces them in sets of four).
